Biography and education

Dr. Shanblatt was born in Pittsfield, Massachusetts and attended Swampscott High School, in Swampscott, Massachusetts.

He earned his Bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude in Biochemistry, from Harvard College in 1988.  Dr. Shanblatt studied medical ethics at the Gruss Institute in Jerusalem in 1992-1993, and he graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1995.  In 1998 he completed his residency training in Internal Medicine at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia.

Dr. Shanblatt is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (1998), and recertified in 2018.

Dr. Shanblatt has been treating patients in Santa Monica since 1998.  He started the Rephana Medical Group, where he is the sole physician, in order to provide quality medical care in a personal setting.   The word “Rephana”, which means “please heal”, is derived from the biblical story of Moses praying on behalf of his sick sister Miriam.

Dr. Shanblatt is a member of the American College of Physicians.  He and his wife live in Los Angeles, and enjoy spending time with their daughters, sons-in-law, and grandchildren.
